Rhodesian constitutional referendum, 1969

On June 20, 1969, the white minority government of Ian Smith held a referendum, in which the predominantly white electorate was asked two questions: whether or not Rhodesia should adopt a new Constitution, which would entrench white minority rule, and whether or not the country should sever its links with the British Crown and become a republic.

The result was 55,000 votes to 21,000 in favour.
